STEM School

Our school has been supporting students in the MINT field (Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences, and Technology) since 2006 and has been officially recognized as a MINT school for several years – and not just on paper. At our school, MINT subjects are not merely compulsory subjects, but an invitation to discover and experiment. MINT is not a question of talent, but of curiosity. We support every student individually, because once the spark is ignited, there is no stopping them. Making mistakes is explicitly considered part of the learning process.

Cooperations with universities and companies, as well as competitions such as the Pangea Competition, open up perspectives beyond the classroom.

The following subjects belong to the STEM field:

S = Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
T = Technology (Computer Science / Informatics)
E = Engineering (Technology and applied technical subjects)
M = Mathematics

STEM-Lessons

• Across year groups, there are two additional “MINT lessons” per week alongside the MINT subjects in the regular timetable.

• Hands-on, practice-oriented learning through experiments

• Responsible use of resources

• Participation in competitions

MINT-Certificate

Students who have regularly participated in MINT activities receive a MINT certificate together with their final report card at the end of Year 10.

This additional qualification provides an excellent starting point for applications on the job market or for continuing education in upper secondary school (gymnasiale Oberstufe / Abitur).

Realschule Grünstraße has excellent facilities in the STEM area:

• 2 computer science rooms with 20 computers each

• 6 science classrooms

• 2 technology workshops

• Wi-Fi network in all subject and classroom areas

• Projectors and Apple TV for audio-visual transmission in all classrooms and subject rooms

• School-owned iPads

• Laptops and projectors on mobile media carts

• IServ access for all school members for easy digital communication and file sharing
